Chandigarh, September 20 : The Shiromani Akali Dal lashed out at the Congress government for making announcement of loan waiver of the farmers for 10th time in 6 months and said that with empty coffers government was making latest announcement only to mislead the farmers with an eye on Gurdaspur bye poll.
In a strong worded statement issued here today, former Minister and General Secretary of the SAD, Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia said that it was strange that instead of delivering on its promises the government was on announcement spree like it was in election campaign mode. He said that never in the history of the state it has ever happened that decision taken by the Cabinet or Vidhan Sabha are not implemented and instead repeat of announcement follows the earlier one.
Lashing out at the latest announcement on notification of the said loan waiver, the SAD leader said that it was really disgusting to see that a month of September which will be remembers in the history of Punjab due to first default in payment of salaries of government employees, the government has announced a loan waiver without clarifying that how it will pay for it.
Mr. Majithia said that government was banking on request it made to the Centre government to relax the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) Act, 2003 to enhance the borrowing limit and do not have any of its own resource mobilization for waiving of the loan of the farmers as per commitment it made with the farmers during the Punjab Assembly elections. He said that such pitiable is the condition of the government that it had miserably failed to pay even the arrears of the cane growers of the state and was using police force to disperse the farmers who were seeking their arrears.
Terming the fresh move to issue notification for the loan waiver as another false and misleading agenda of the government, Mr. Majithia said that government wants to befool the farmers of the state who are feeding the nation taking the financial burden on themselves. He said that it was most inhuman for the government to do so as these peasants are serving the nation and the Congress government betraying them with its announcements which lack substance.
The SAD leader said that now the farmers have become aware of the clever agenda of the Congress party and understand its gameplan to garner votes in Gurdaspur election. This strategy of the Congress government will not work now as its hidden agenda and image being a ‘cheat’ has been exposed before the public and they will teach it a lifetime lesson in the coming bye poll of the Gurdaspur.
