Amritsar, September 9, 2017:Damdami Taksal asked SGPC to withdraw the honour and purse it gave to the famous columnist Kuldip Nayar, in july 3, 2006 at a function of 400th anniversary relating to the foundation of Sri Akal Takht, held at Golden Temple, as Nayar had hurt sentiments of Sikhs by making objectionable remarks Sikh personalities and Sikh martyrs.
Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa, head of the Damdami Taksal and president of Sant Samaj also would be forced to write to Punjab Government seeking ban on Nayar’s autobiography ‘Beyond the Lines”. He hit out at Nayar for spreding the vilified propaganda to defame and malign the image of Sikh martyrs and Sant jarnail Singh Bhindrawala. “ Notwithstanding the biased names calling of the Sikh martyrs by historians and writers including Nayar, the Sikh community continues to hold them in high esteem. Sikh have love, respect and admiration for their great leaders and martyrs that include Sant Jarnail Singh Bhandrawala and Bhai Amreek Singh, who awakened them form slumber and fought against state’s aggression.” He added.
Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa took a strong note against the famous columnist Kuldeep Nayar for using objectionable vocabulary against Saint Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and comparing them with Dera chief of Sirsa. He said that communal people like Nayar have not learned any lesson from the past, they have provoked the religious beliefs of the Sikhs by provoking Sikh sentiments through communal writings. Damdami Taksal Chief further added that the foul words used by Nayar for Sant Bhindranwale will affect the peaceful environment of the State because Sikh community considers Bhindranwale as a hero and Sri Akal Takht Sahib has declared him a great Warrior and martyr of 20th century. He added that Sant Bhindranwale had done a great job for Sikh and Punjab’s interests and represented the sentiments of the Sikh community; their sacrifice helped to awaken the sleeping Sikh community. He strongly condemned Nayar’s narrow view of calling the Sant Bhindranwale as a terrorist, saying that even though Nayar had long been on a span of anti-Saints and made comments on the life of saint but till date no proof has been produced by Nayar that could prove Sant a terrorist. Challenging Nayar, he said that the Indian Home Department and the Punjab Police Administration in response to the RTI clearly stated that till June 6, 1984 there was no case registered against Saint in any police station. He said that Nayar should know that neither any state or central government, had declared Sant Bhindranwale a offender, neither did any kind of case was registered nor any objection was raised on their religious activities. No government or court justified him as a terrorist. He condemns the claim that Bhindranwale had political support from Congress party and said that Sant Bhindranwale raised voice against Congress’s exterimitise and brought their struggle to death.
In his autobiography, Nayar has quoted an Congress MP Kamal Nath who claimed that they provided “money to Santji off and on to challenge the Akali government”. Kamal Nath is alive. He must speak out when he interviewed, as written by Nayar, who others were present and the amount he gave to Santji and for how long. I challenge Nayar and Kamal Nath to provide a single concrete evidence to prove his baseless allegation. He warns Nayar for possible protests in future if he would not withdraw his word and clear the mess.
