Driving Naari Programme launched in Chandigarh
Chandigarh/New Delhi, September 5 : Member Parliament Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra and Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DGSMC) General Secretary Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa today met Union Minister of State for Information and Brodcasting Mr. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and demanded continuation of weekly programme ‘Punjab Darpan’ on Delhi Doordarshan National and also handed over a written memorandum on the issue.
Mr. Rathore immediately took cognizance of the matter and sought a detailed report on the issue. He assured both the visiting leaders that he will personally ensure continuation of the said program.
Prof. Chandumajra and Mr. Sirsa brought to the notice of Minister that Delhi Doordarshan National has stopped telecasting a weekly programme titled ‘Punjabi Darpan’ which used to be telecasted every Tuesday on DD (National) between 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM covering Punjabi culture,history, language, literature, Mela in Punjab, and various topics related to current affairs of punjabis discussed in this programme. They told him that this program used to generate awareness among general masses and to provide a platform to the Punjabi Community to share their views pertaining to Punjabi language, its rich history & culture. However, the said program which had been continuing for the last 10 years, has been abruptly closed.
Resenting the decision to wind up program, both leader said that the closure of the program has been an unhappy news for a large section of ‘Punjabi Community’ and lovers of ‘Punjabi Language’ and they feel disheartened by the stand of the Doordarshan National stopping telecast of “Punjabi Darpan Weekly Programme” which was highly popular among Punjabi speaking community of the country.
They also told Mr. Rathore that a large section of the people living in Delhi and northern part of India speak and live with Punjabi way of life. The ‘Punjabi Language’ has a history of more than 7 centuries old enriching the social, philosophical and cultural tradition of India with its valuable contribution.
Both the leaders said that they were receiving hundreds of calls worldwide from Punjabi speaking people to request your goodself to re-consider the decision and persuade for continuation of ‘Punjabi Darpan’ weekly programme on DD National considering the sentiments of Punjabi community and urged him that orders on continuation of the program should be issued without any delay.
Mr. Sirsa also thanked the Minister for giving the minority status to four degree colleges of Delhi running under Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.
