NSUI sweeps Panjab University polls

nsui1Chandigarh,  Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Friday swept the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) poll by winning three of the four posts.

NSUI bagged the posts of president, vice-president and secretary, while the post of joint secretary fell in the kitty of Panjab University Students Union (PUSU), a university spokesman said here.

Last year, NSUI had won president and joint secretary’s post while ABVP got the vice-president’s post and Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) had won the secretary’s post.

NSUI’s Divyanshu Budhiraja got 2,249 votes and was elected as the new president as against Students Organisation of India (SOI) Rachit Duggal who got 2,191 votes.

For the post of vice-president, NSUI’s Snigdha Bawa got 2,614 votes as against SOI’s Ramandeep Kaur who got 2,326 votes.

SOI is student wing of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

NSUI’s Ankur Sehrawat got 2,953 votes and was elected as secretary defeating PUSU’s Neeraj Kharab who got 2,441 votes.

For the post of joint secretary PUSU’s Abhishek Thapar got 2,453 votes as against NSUI’s Sachin Kanwar who polled 2,377 votes.

The counting of votes was done twice on demand of students organisations.

Meanwhile, Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa hailed the victory of NSUI in the PU Students Council polls.
