Amritsar, 31 August – Sikh Hardliners today observed the death anniversary of Bhai Dilawar Singh an human bomb that killed the Punjab CM Beant Singh on 31 August 22 years ago and vowed to carry on the mission of martyrs.
Notably, the Akal Takhat has bestowed the title of great martyr on Dilawar Singh 6 years ago. The SGPC appointed jathedar and the parallel jathedar stayed away.
SGPC’s second rung functionaries attended the function while head priest of Akal Takhat bestowed the siropa to the family members of Dilawar Singh. The bhog of Akandh Path was performed and a simple ceremony was held on the first floor of the Akal Takhat.
Interestingly, Jagtar Singh Hawara the imprisoned jathedar of Akal Takhat nominated by Sarbat Khalsa sent his message which was read out by Gurcharan Singh. Paying rich tributes to his fellow colleague, he stressed on the need for Panthic unity to accomplish the mission for which martyrs like Dilawar Singh have sacrificed their lives.
Dal Khalsa president Harpal Singh Cheema and Kanwar Pal Singh while paying homage to Dilawar Singh took a dig at the SGPC for organizing such functions halfheartedly.
Representatives of Akali Dal Mann, Dal Khalsa, Akhand Kirtani Jatha and Sikh Youth of Punjab were present on the occasion.
