Chandigarh, The Punjab Congress President, Mr Partap Singh Bajwa, today called upon the Bharatiya Janata Party to explain its alliance with the “looteras” in Punjab. He said this dubious description had been used by for the Akali Dal by the senior BJP leader and thrice MP Mr Navjot Singh Sidhu who was party’s star campaigner in Haryana during the recent Assembly elections.
“This serious allegation levelled by a person of the stature of Mr Sidhu just cannot be wished away by the BJP which has five ministers in the Parkash Singh Badal cabinet. The BJP must tell the people whether its ministers too share this title that their own party leader has bestowed upon the Akalis”, he added.
The PPCC chief said earlier, the allegations like that of drug and liquor mafia against the Akali leaders were being levelled by the district level leaders. Now the situation was different as a leader who had been thrice MP from Amritsar had castigated the Akalis by using this word which can be translated only as robbers.
Either the BJP should tell what action the party proposed take its senior leader or admit it was also sharing this loot. He said what was all the more serious that he levelled this allegation after the Akali Dal lodged a formal complaint against Mr Sidhu yesterday to the state party chief, Mr Kamal Sharma. Earlier in the day yesterday, Mr. Sidhu had mocked at the Akali slogan of “Raj Nahin Sewa” saying in practice, it was “Raj Nahin Mewa” by which he had attacked the rulers for using political powers to fill their own coffers. He had said it was just 10 per cent sewa and 90 per cent mewa.
Mr Bajwa said either the BJP should stop befooling the people or come out of the government.
