Chandigarh, Questioning the clean chit given by the Chief Minister, Mr. Parkash Singh Badal, to his government on the issue of drug smuggling, the Punjab Congress President, Mr Partap Singh Bajwa, challenged him to recommend a CBI to expose the reality as it involved big names who were being shielded.
He said earlier, when the Congress raked up this issue after the alleged drug smuggler Jagdish Bhola spilled out the name of senior minister, it was refuted as a political campaign. Then Cultural Affairs Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur had to resign as his name surfaced in this racket. Now the Chief parliamentary Secretary, Mr Avinash Chander, was under the Enforcement Directorate scanner. He said it was not just the Congress which had been demanding high level probe but now BJP, the alliance partner of the Akali Dal, had also started talking about the menace of drugs which could not be dismissed by him as part of any vilification campaign as in case that was the situation, the two should part company.
