Give credit to the Aussies: Gambhir

New Delhi, March 22
Australia deserve credit for their impressive performances and proving wrong a host of experts and pundits who predicted a clean sweep for the home side, Gautam Gambhir has said.
Spinner Harbhajan Singh and former India captain Sourav Ganguly had predicted a series sweep for Virat Kohli’s men but the visitors have fought hard and the series is tied 1-1 after three hard-fought Tests.
“We should give credit to the Australian side which has played remarkably,” said Gambhir. “Most players like Harbhajan and Sourav predicted a whitewash for India, but Australia have proved themselves brilliantly. And now with everything on the line, Australia will be a tricky opponent.”
Besides brilliant cricket, the series has witnessed a fair share of controversies and a sledging contest between the two sides. While it has bothered many, Gambhir said sledging was part of the game and it was hard for the players to keep a lid on their emotions on an international stage. “It is fine to play hard and do whatever you can to upset the opposition till the time you don’t get personal,” the 35-year-old said.
“These are not robots playing the game, and when you are playing for your country and there are so many expectations on your shoulder, emotions can take over sometimes.”
