Driving Naari Programme launched in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, Senior Congress leader and Kapurthala MLA Rana GurjeetSingh today had a dig at the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for going to China to learn about fish farming as he could have easily done the same nearer home in Haryana andUttar Pradesh where farmers have successfully adopted pisciculture.
He also criticised the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal for trying to mislead people by his announcements of making Thein Dam a tourist spot and promoting water sports there when the already existing water bodies like one at Ropar were crying for attention.
In a statement issued here today, the senior Congress leader disclosed that in Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh the farmers had developed fish farms in the flood prone areas and were earning as much as Rs one lakh per acre per year. Similarly, he added, in Nilokheri in neighbouring Haryana pisciculture was a great success.
Quoting an example, he said, one of the fish farms in Nilokheri, the Sultan Fish Farm had won national and international awards. Instead of going to a far off place like China, he suggested, the Chief Minister should have gone to these places which would have saved him resources and energy.
About Sukhbir’s proposal to develop Thein dam as a tourist spot, he suggested that the Deputy Chief Minister should have seek a report about the plight of water bodies at Ropar, which is lying neglected for a long time.
He said, the hyacinth had grown for miles and miles and for years there has not been any initiative to cleanse it. He said, this would have helped in breeding fish as due to the hyacinth there the fish breeding is becoming difficult.
Rana Gurjeet said, dolphin had been seen in river Beas and the government should take measures to encourage its breeding and production.
He said, dolphin breeds could be produced there if the government was really sincere. But, Rana added, the government’s purpose was not to do anything but to divert the public attention by making attractive announcements and forgetting the same before the ink gets dried on the paper these are listed on.
