BSNL slashes mobile internet rates, offers 1GB data for Rs 36

In a bid to counter the threat posed by Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio, the state-run telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has slashed the 3G mobile internet rates to Rs 36 per GB.

The customers will now get four times more data on existing data STVs (special tariff vouchers).

“Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has decided to offer up to four times extra data on existing data STVs (special tariff vouchers) available in the market,” BSNL said in a statement.

Under Rs 291 plan, the customers will get a data of 8GB with a validity of 28 days against 2GB earlier.

The move comes after Reliance Jio made the 4G internet service free till March, 2017.
