IT to improve delivery of services in Haryana : Governor

Chandigarh, Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki today said Information Technology will be extensively used in the state to improve delivery of citizen-centric services and to ensure transperancy in government spending.

Promising a ‘Digital Haryana’ in consosance with the national policy of ‘Digital India’, Solanki said, IT will be the backbone of the government’s new way of providing accountable, transparent, and participatory governance in the state.The Governor was addressing the newly elected members of the state Assembly here today.

“IT will be used to re-engineer government processes to improve service delivery and programme implementation, he said,” he said.

Transparency will be ensured in government spending by creating IT-enabled citizen services, he said, adding, steps will also be taken to connect every gram Panchayat to the broadband highway and make all schools e-enabled in a phased manner.

Besides, emerging technologies like social media will be used as a tool to directly engage with the people of the state in policy making and administration. Digitization of government records will be done for improving accessibility and transparency, the Governor added.

Solanki said, “Empathetic state government would play a pro-active role in reaching out to the citizens. It will revamp the grievance redressal system to make it more decentralised, accountable and responsive at the lowest level of the administration.”

Steps will also be taken to improve efficiency of the administration through periodic performance assessment, and by establishing a system of incentives and disincentives, he said.

The Governor also detailed plans of the newly installed BJP government in various other sectors, including tourism, public health, road and power sectors.
