GK Vasan quits Congress, to relaunch Tamil Manila Congress

Chennai, Former union minister GK Vasan on Monday to quit the Congress party and will relaunch his father GK Moopanar’s outfit Tamil Manila Congress.
Addressing a press conference, Vasan told his supporters that a new path will be set. “There should be no factions. On the path of Kamaraj and Moopnar I am starting a new journey in Tamil Nadu. I will strive to work for people of Tamil Nadu.”
On Saturday, Vasan had hit out at the Congress party saying that the party’s Working Committee was acting against the interests of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.
Vasan’s move is believed to be a smart one as the Congress party is facing a tough time in the state. Vasan said, “We want to be an alternate for Tamil Nadu people. We want to lead the state. We want to fulfil the vision of Kamraj. We are not connected to the BJP. We were with the national party for 14 years. We like to thank them.”
On his stand on Sri Lanka, Vasan said, “Our stand is never with banned organisation. We are with poor people who have suffered. So we have taken this decision.”
The development came as a huge blow to the Congress which is trying to gain foothold in the state. After DMK broke alliance with the Congress, it has been facing a tough situation in the state.
Vasan said, “I have heard the unanimous opinion of the cadre. Only Kamaraj and Moopanar’s vision can help Tamil Nadu. We will set a new political path in the footsteps of Kamaraj.”
