Hyderabad, August 22
Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu arrived to a grand welcome at Hyderabad International Airport on Monday morning.
Amid scenes of jubilation and loud cheers, Sindhu and coach Pullela Gopichand were greeted by her parents PV Ramana and P Vijaya, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali, and some ministers from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
An open-top-motorcade with Sindhu began from the airport towards Gachibowli stadium, where the Telangana Government organised a gala felicitation to honour her.
The Telangana Government had announced Rs 5 crore cash reward, a 1,000 square yard housing site near the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy in Gachibowli and a suitable government job, if she wanted, and Rs 1 crore for her coach.
Tendulkar to present BMW car to Sindhu
Meanwhile, batting great Sachin Tendulkar will present a BMW car to the star shuttler for bringing laurels to the country.
The BMW car is being sponsored by Tendulkar’s close friend and president of Hyderabad Badminton Association of India V Chamundeswaranath.
“Sindhu will be gifted a BMW car by Chamudeswaranath and his friends. Sachin Tendulkar will present the car to Sindhu,” said Punnaiah Choudary, BAI Secretary (Tournaments), who had accompanied the team in Rio.
Four years ago, Tendulkar had presented a BMW to ace shuttler Saina Nehwal, who had won a bronze medal at the London Olympics.
Tendulkar had also presented a Maruti Swift to Sindhu, who had won the girls’ singles title at the Asian Youth Under-19 Championship in 2012.
