Papuerized Punjab govt. scissors allocations to poor : Jakhar

Chandigarh, The leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Sunil Jakhar lamented that the poor in Punjab are left in lurch. The fiscal mess caused due to mis-governance and unwanted indulgence in opulence by Punjab Government has finally took toll on allocation of funds for the welfare schemes for the poor. Punjab Government has hit where it hurts the most- poor man’s belly. Ironically Punjab government has raised the issue price of their flagship ATTA – DAL scheme, despite failing to supply them to the poor for the last six months. It is cruel joke on the poor who are already battling for survival in a hyper-inflationary scenario set in since the advent of NDA government at the centre. The raising of prices of ATTA from Rs.1/kg to Rs.2/kg and that of DAL from Rs.20/kg to Rs.30/kg puts big question mark on the approach of NDA government in PUNJAB about their intention of bringing much hyped and much promised “Achay Din” in Punjab. Worst, Punjab government is not even supplying pulses to the poor, it is infact supplying chickpeas to them in place of pulses.

MR. JAKHAR added that the People of Punjab who voted for NDA in the recent Lok Sabha elections feel cheated as the burden of inflation has increased further and the Punjab government is further increasing the burden by hostile measures. The UPA government on the initiative of Congress president had launched “National Food Security Act” wherein every poor was to be given wheat at Rs.2/kg. The Punjab government has not even spared poor by issuing cards on selective basis of political affiliations. Many poor families as consequence are being left out and are suffering badly. It is important that the Punjab Government immediately reverses its decision to increase the issue price of Atta & Dal they are going to impose from Ist December 2014 and the necessary directions are issued to administration identify and issue cards to left out poor families.
