1 dead, 3 injured in school shooting near Seattle

Marysville/Washington, One person has died and three injured in a high school shooting, north of Seattle, perpetrated by a lone gunman. The gunman has also died.

Police responded on Friday to a high school north of Seattle after it was locked down amid reports of a shooting. The hospital says three victims are in critical condition after the shooting, while police have confirmed that the shooter, a lone person, and another have died.

The Marysville School District said in a statement that “Marysville Pilchuck High School is currently in lock down due to an emergency situation. Police and emergency services have responded.”

The district said further information would come from police. Local television stations said two people were being airlifted to a hospital.

Marysville Police Commander Robb Lamoureux said on Friday the shooter was a student and could not say if anyone else was wounded.

Live video showed students being evacuated from Marysville-Pilchuck High School in Marysville, about 50 kilometres north of Seattle.

Ayn Dietrich, an FBI spokesperson in Seattle, said the agency had personnel on their way to the scene to help authorities with the investigation. The latest school shooting in the region happened at Seattle Pacific University, where a gunman killed one student and wounded two others on June 5.
