Gurdwara row : Takht slams Belgium

Amritsar, The Akal Takht has criticised the Belgian government over the forcible closure of a gurdwara in Brussels on the grounds that “illegal and unauthorised” people visit the shrine to partake ‘langar’.

In a statement issued here on Friday, jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said the decision had hurt Sikh sentiments. The jathedar’s statement comes close on the heels of the criticism of the Belgian government by the SGPC.

The jathedar said the Belgian government must realise that anyone, irrespective of his or her religion, could enter a gurdwara for partaking of langar or for listening to Gurbani. There is no bar on anyone’s entry into a Sikh shrine, he added.

The jathedar said the gurdwara management committee could not be blamed for the entry of unauthorised people.
