Chandigarh, All 163 Urban Local Bodies in Punjab are all set to have 100 percent water supply, sewerage cover besides functioning Sewerage Treatment Plants by the end of 2015 as Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal and Local Bodies Minister Mr. Anil Joshi today directed the concerned authorities to initiate and augment projects well in time.
Presiding over a high level meeting with administrative secretaries of concerned departments, Mr. Badal accompanied by Local Bodies Minister Mr. Anil Joshi, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Local Bodies Mr. Som Parkash while reviewing the Rs. 3439.42 crore project said by the end of next year all urban local bodies (ULBs) in the state would have complete cover of all requisite basic amenities. He said these amenities would also include world class major roads, concrete streets and LED lights.
Deputy Chief Minister informed that ongoing water supply, sewerage and STP works in 105 towns have been completed and asked the secretary local bodies to conduct quality check audit of development works in the towns. He asked secretary local bodies to engage Public Sector Undertakings and government institutes to ensure transparent surveys and quality check of various development projects and engineering works.
To save energy and reduce power bills of ULBs, Mr. Badal also gave nod to install LED Lights in Ludhiana and SAS Nagar cities on pilot basis, which would further launched in whole state. Deputy CM asked all senior officers of concerned departments to come out with the timelines for starting and completion of projects in next meeting so that necessary steps could be taken well in time.
Taking stock of various development works in the towns needed rejuvenation and rehabilitation, Mr. Badal asked secretary local bodies to engage the services of different development authorities and Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board to conduct thorough surveys for this purpose.
