AAP forms poll campaign panel

Chandigarh, The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today constituted a 16-member election campaign committee for the Punjab Assembly elections, while declaring that the party would select poll candidates from the names recommended by AAP volunteers.
The party said the first list of candidates would be released in the first week of May, while the names for all 117 Assembly seats would be announced by June-end.
The following are the members of the committee: Punjab AAP affairs in-charge Sanjay Singh; AAP’s secretary (organisation) Durgesh Pathak; state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur; Sangrur legislator Bhagwant Mann; Faridkot MP Prof Sadhu Singh; head of party’s farmers’ wing Captain HS Kang; state party spokesman Sukhpal Khaira; comedian-turned-politician Gurpreet Ghuggi; party’s legal cell head Himmat Singh Shergill; youth leader Harjot Singh Bains; party’s women wing’s head Prof Baljinder Kaur; and senior leaders Yamini Gaumar, Karanvir Singh Tiwana, Kultar Singh, Jagtar Singh Sanghera and Buta Singh Ashant.
“We will make sure that no person who is facing a corruption charge or has a criminal background is given the party ticket,” Sanjay Singh said.
If a tainted person is allotted the AAP ticket inadvertently, the same can be withdrawn by the party at the eleventh hour, if substantiated by evidence, he added.
