BASSIN, Que. — A funeral for former federal cabinet minister Jean Lapierre and five of his relatives is underway in eastern Quebec.
The service for the ex-political commentator, his wife Nicole Beaulieu, his father, his two brothers and one of his sisters is taking place in Bassin, Lapierre’s hometown in Iles-de-la-Madeleine.
His father, Raymond Lapierre, died of Parkinson’s disease just a few days before the five others lost their lives in a plane crash March 29 as they headed to the family home.

Another service for Jean Lapierre, 59, and Beaulieu will be held in Montreal on April 16.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating the crash, which also killed pilots Pascal Gosselin and Fabrice Labourel.
Gosselin’s funeral will be held near Montreal on Saturday, while details for Labourel’s are not known.
