City closes 45 outdoor skating rinks due to warm temperatures

Toronto: A number of outdoor ice rinks will end its season early, as a result of the recent warm and rainy weather, the city announced today.
Temperatures have climbed over recent days and broke records on Saturday with an above-seasonal high of 18 C at Pearson airport. Toronto is expected to see continued warm temperatures throughout this week with an expected high of 12 C on Wednesday and 10 C on Thursday.
A total of 45 rinks have been closed as of Tuesday, including Trinity Bellwoods Park, Christie Pits and Dufferin Grove. The closures will also affect Toronto’s ski and snowboard centres, Centennial Park in Etobicoke and Earl Bales in North York.

Six outdoor rinks are scheduled to remain open until the end of the season on March 20. Canada’s largest city square, Nathan Phillips, is included.
