* Maheshinder Grewal says someone who has been dishonest to his party
should not try to teach lessons to the SAD
Chandigarh, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said it was former mp Navjot Sidhu who had back stabbed the BJP as well as his mentor Shri Arun Jaitely in the Lok Sabha elections by refusing to campaign for his own party in Amritsar.
In a statement here, SAD general secretary and party core committee member Maheshinder Singh Grewal said it was shocking that Sidhu, who had not been honest to his own party, was trying to teach lessons to the SAD.
Mr Grewal said instead of resorting to cheap theatrics the former mp should admit whether Union minister Arun Jaitely was his mentor in politics or not. “If this is true as the whole world knows, he should explain why he back stabbed his political guru when the latter needed him the most”.
The SAD leader said he wanted to make it clear that the akali party did not practice the selfish and self centred style of politics as displayed by Navjot Sidhu in Punjab. “We have always stood by our friends and allies and that is why we are contesting the assembly elections in league with the INLD in Haryana. Mr Sidhu is a new entrant in politics but even he should know that the SAD has been a traditional ally of the INLD since the time of Chaudhary Devi Lal. We are only continuing in that tradition”, he added.
The senior Akali leader also advised Sidhu to maintain decorum and not treat political speeches like a comedy circus show while referring to a senior and respected leader like Shri Om Prakash Chautala. “Chautala Sahab was put in jail by the UPA government which misused the CBI for this purpose. The SAD understands this better because the erstwhile Congress government had also registered false cases against the Badal family”.
Referring to few other issues touched by the former mp, Mr Grewal said Sidhu had also mouthed blatant lies yesterday while campaigning in Sirsa. He said Sidhu had alleged that the akalis had ensured the BJP’s defeat in Amritsar while the truth was that Mr Jaitely had lost most heavily in BJP held assembly segments. “Sidhu should explain whether this was a direct result of back stabbing indulged by him”, Mr Grewal added.
