Chandigarh, March 14 : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded adequate compensation for Punjab farmers for the crop damage due to unusual widespread rains accompanied by strong winds which feared to have caused damage to wheat, mustard and several other crops in the state.
“As per the reports, wheat, mustard and other citrus fruit crop all over the state have reportedly damaged because of rain, hailstorms, thunder squalls and high velocity winds in last few days” said AAP Punjab Convener, Suchha Singh Chhotepur.
Chhotepur said the untimely rains have also caused damage to the kinnow crop in Abohar and Fazilka belt and also to the sunflower, Moong (pulses) and maize crops due to their early sowing season in some parts of Punjab.
Under such circumstances Akali-BJP led Punjab government must compensate Punjab farmers as soon as possible so the farmers of state should be evaded from taking extreme steps. The farmers of the state have not yet recovered from the huge loss experienced because of failure of cotton crop destroyed due to whitefly attack.
Badal government which claims to be sympathetic to the cause of farmers however has still not compensated the farmers of the state. Therefore Chhotepur said it was extremely important for the state government to immediately get the loss assessed by the revenue and agricultural departments so that farmers could be monetarily compensated without delay.
