Toronto, Several areas of the GTA are now under a winter storm warning ahead of heavy snowfall that is expected to hit southern Ontario midday Tuesday.
Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Caledon, Newmarket, Georgina, Uxbridge, northern York Region, and northern Durham Region were added to the list of areas covered under the winter storm warning this morning.
On Monday afternoon, Environment Canada upgraded a winter storm watch to a warning for Toronto, Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Halton Hills, Milton, Mississauga and Brampton.

“The snow will begin later this morning and intensify into the evening with the heaviest amounts of snow forecast for tonight,” an advisory issued by the national weather agency says.
“Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are likely by Wednesday morning. Strong northeasterly winds will also produce blowing snow especially in exposed areas due to gusts of 70 kilometres per hour.”
Environment Canada says people should consider rescheduling all non-essential travel until the weather improves.
“Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas,” the advisory concludes.
The city says it will be opening its two cold weather drop-ins until noon on Wednesday due to the storm.
