Toronto : The CEO of Goodwill Toronto, Eastern, Central and Northern Ontario has resigned.
In a news release, Keiko Nakamura says that “there is no longer a role for a CEO” now that a trustee has been assigned to handle the organization’s bankruptcy.
She says she will continue to assist the bankruptcy trustee on a voluntary basis.

In the same release, Nakamura says that despite hopes that the organization might restructure, “there is no viable option that allows the organization to reemerge from the bankruptcy process.”
“I deeply regret that there is no way to save this company,” Nakamura says in the release. “I am thankful for the time I had at Goodwill and my good fortune to have been part of this magnificent group of people.”
On January 17, employees at stores across the organization’s service areas in the province arrived to find stores shuttered.
Nakamura later revealed that the board of directors had resigned and that the organization faced a severe cash flow crisis.
The organization’s former staff are still owed approximately $4.2 million in vacation and severance pay.
The Trustee, Pollard & Associates Inc., has called a meeting with creditors for March 2, 2016.
