Chandigarh, February 8: The defamation case filed by Punjab Revenue and Information and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia might linger on but at the very first hearing today, the Ludhiana court has stopped main accused and senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh from making any statement against the complainant. Sanjay Singh has been barred from leaving the country without court permission.

Majithia had filed the defamation suit following Sanjay’s statement whereby he had tried to link the minister in the drugs controversy. The court has issued order that “the accused shall not commit an offence similar to the offence of which he is accused, or suspected, or the commission of which he is suspected”.

This is major aspect of today’s proceedings in this case and a big relief to Majithia whose name is being dragged into this controversy by AAP leaders to harvest political benefits. This despite the fact that nothing has come up against the minister concerned during investigation into the case following the arrest of former cop turned drug baron Jagdish Bhola.

At the same time, Majithia has been granted permanent exemption from appearance.

Sanjay Singh was granted bail on personal bond of Rs 50,000 as the offences are bailable.

The court observed that the accused shall attend in accordance with the conditions of the bond executed. The accused shall not commit an offence similar to the offence of which he is accused, or suspected, or the commission of which he is suspected. The accused shall not directly or indirectly make any inducement, threat or promise to any person acquainted with the facts of the case so as to dissuade him from disclosing such facts to the Court or to any police officer or tamper with the evidence. That in case of change of his address, he shall immediately inform the Court about it.

Moreover, the accused shall not leave the India without the prior permission of the Court. He has been told to submit a copy of the passport in case he has any.
