CHANDIGARH, January 9: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today said that some leaders who had recently left the party had actually been rejected by people and were now trying to seek “political asylum” elsewhere in the false hope of being accepted there.
“The way our rejected leaders are being received in the AAP, the party is turning out to be a junkyard for the deadwood in the Congress party”, the PCC president said in a statement issued here today.
He pointed out, the leaders like Aman Arora, Sukhpal Khaira and CD Kambhoj had successively been defeated in the elections and had lost all hope of being able to contest while remaining in the Congress.
Referring to Arora, the PCC president said, his family had been allotted the ticket six times continuously since 1992 and it had lost it four times consecutively. Maintaining that it was the worst betrayal with the Congress, he said, all the four members of Arora’s family including his father Bhagwan Dass Arora, his mother Ms Parmeshwari Arora, his sister Ms Sonia and he himself had been given the chance by the party.
He said, while Mr Bhagwan Dass Arora contested in 1992 and 1997, after his death, his wife contested the byelection in 2000, his daughter contested in 2002 and Aman himself contested in 2007 and 2012. “He probably hopes to repeat the history in AAP as well”, Capt Amarinder remarked while wishing him good luck.
