Patiala, Pradeep Singh and Saraswati Rout bagged gold medals in their respective weight categories on the fourth day of the Senior National Weightlifting Championships.
Punjab’s Pradeep lifted 145kg in snatch before accumulating 185kg in clean and jerk to steal the top position with a total of 330kg in the men’s 94kg category.
RV Rahul of Railways Sports Prmotion Board (RSPB) and Nogender Singh of Madhya Pradesh won the silver and bronze medals with total lifts of 329kg (147+182) and 317kg (148+169), respectively. In the women’s 58kg category, Saraswati walked away with the yellow metal with a total lift of 189kg (82+107), while N Sumanbala Devi snatched the silver with a total effort of 183kg (80+103) and Navdeep Kaur settled for a bronze with a lift of 180kg (80+100).
In the women’s 63kg category, Reena won the gold medal with a total lift of 215kg (96+119).
Vandna Gupta and Jasvir Kaur bagged the second and third positions with efforts of 211kg (93+118) and 207kg (90+117), respectively.
Yesterday, Ludhiana athlete Vikas Thakur of Services Sports Control Board created a new national record with a total lift of 341kg in the 85kg category.
