Driving Naari Programme launched in Chandigarh
CHANDIGARH, DECEMBER 26: Federation of Arhtia Association, Punjab called on Food & Civil Supplies Minister Punjab, Sh. Adaish Partap Singh Kairon here today regarding their issue of pending payments on account of paddy procurement.
On behalf of the Federation Sh. Vijay Kalra, President along with other senior office bearers explained the difficulty being faced by the arhtias and farmers on account of delay in payments of their balance dues for the procurement of paddy. Apart from this, Sh. Kalra also submitted about other pending issues of the Association. In this regard, during the meeting the Secretary Food informed that this year due to bumper crop, 140 LMT paddy had been procured by govt agencies including FCI, whereas last year (KMS 2014-15), total procurement Govt. Agencies was only 116 LMT. Due to the increase in purchase, the sanctioned limit of Rs. 18972 Cr of RBI was got enhanced to 20608 Cr by Govt. and thereafter the matter was taken up with the RBI to further enhance the limit to 25225 Cr. In fact, till date 18130 Cr has been released on account of MSP to the arhtias/farmers and the remaining amount will be released upon sanction of enhanced limit by RBI.
Giving patience hearing to the demands of association, Mr. Kairon assured the Federation of Arhtia Association that the State Govt was vigorously pursuing the matter with RBI and that the payments would be made latest by the 8th January 2016.
On the assurance given by him, the President of the Federation of Arhtia Association, Sh. Vijay Kalra agreed to call off the planned rally scheduled for 28th December 2015 at Jagraon.
