Ontario : A balmy Christmas in southern Ontario is putting a damper on some holiday traditions.
The ice rink at Nathan Phillips Square has been closed due to poor ice conditions. City staff put a note up on the rink at around 6 a.m. on Thursday.
A number of other rinks around Toronto have also been closed due to the ice flooding. You can see a complete list here.
Environment Canada predicted Toronto would reach a high of 17C on Christmas Eve, shattering a record that was previously set in 1964 with a temperature of 12.2C.
A record was also broken on Dec. 23 when a high of 13.2 was set at Pearson International Airport. The previous record was set in 1957 with a high of 11.7.
The national weather agency called for excellent travelling conditions for the holidays but warned of cool, gusty winds moving into the area Christmas Eve.
Temperatures are only expected to reach a high of 8 on Christmas Day.
While some are rejoicing at the idea that winter has been unofficially put off for a little while longer, others are lamenting the absence of a white Christmas. Many, however, say they are staying focused on the spirit of the holiday.
