Driving Naari Programme launched in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, December 14: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked the Congress and other opposition parties in Punjab not to be cynical in causing and exploiting caste divisions in the people out of cheap and unscrupulous pursuit of power.
In a statement here the SAD general secretary Harcharan Singh Bains said the the congress and some other organizations were trying to give a caste colouring to the abohar incident which was essentially a case of gang rivalry in which members of Dalit communities also featured on both sides. The government was determined to deal firmly with the unlawful elements.
Mr Bains said that Congress was trying to distort facts to paint the issue as Casteist to score brownie political points. He said that the killing of dalit youth at Abohar was the result of group rivalry and the administration has acted promptly effectively and come down on culprits with a heavy hand. There is a long history behind this gang rivalry. There were members of Dalit as well as other communities on both sides of the fence. Nevertheless said Mr Bains , if any one was found guilty of causing hurt or injury to the sentiments of any community , he or she would not be spared and would be dealt with under the strictest provisions of law.
Mr Bains said that the that the SAD-BJP alliance was committed to the maintenance of respect and dignity of every member of every community , especially to the protection and welfare of the weaker sections of the society natural figured very high on its agenda.
“We firmly believe in principal of universal brotherhood and communal harmony, which were taught to us by the great gurus, saints and seers snd were inspired by the description of Dalits as Guru ke Bete by the tenth master Guru Gobind Singh Ji. the alliance government has taken effective steps to safeguard the interests of Dalits in the state
He said that it was unfortunate that Congress was trying to create social confusion and divisions for political considerations. “They are merely shedding crocodile tears while the world knows the SAD-BJP govt has started and implemented path breaking policies and programmes both for the protection and welfare of weaker sections of society. ” said Mr Bains
