Chandigarh, December 9: Hitting out hard for just resorting to the formality of writing letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding relief for the beleaguered farmers in the state, People’s Party of Punjab chief Manpreet Singh Badal called upon Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to camp in Delhi and return only after getting some concrete promise in case he was sincere in his effort.

“Writing a letter to Modi is nothing more than a formality to convince the agitated farmers that he is really concerned about their problems. It amounts to befooling them. He has even gone to the extent of creating the scare of situation taking a violent turn. This is not the issue that can be resolved by just writing letters and none knows it better that CM himself who is the chief minister for the fifth time. He should meet the Prime Minister along with his entire cabinet to build up pressure. After all, his party is an ally of the BJP”, he said.

Manpreet reminded CM that he was the first leader to welcome to announcement of Modi as the prime ministerial candidate and he was the first to organize his rally in the country at Pathankot and pinned every hope on the BJP coming into power. However, Modi had ditched Punjab and the situation of the Chief Minister was so pathetic that he was not even getting appointment with the Prime Minister.

He said that as patron of the Akali Dal, Badal should direct party president Sukhbir Singh Badal to stage demonstration in Delhi on the issues that had hit the farmers hard as going by the present indications, Modi was unmoved by such formalities of writing letters. He pointed out it was not for the first time that the state government had written to the centre but the outcome had always remained a big zero.

He reminded CM that it was not unusual for the chief ministers to themselves lead people to stage protests in Delhi to get the demands accepted. Now the problem was here was the government in which the Akali Dal had a strong representation but still Punjab was not being given any attention, what to talk of priority. In this context, he also questioned the role of Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
