TORONTO — Canada’s largest stock market was up Monday morning, parting company with its American counterparts.
The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX index was up 82.19 points at 13,450.43. On Friday, it fell 56.95 points.
The major U.S. indexes were down slightly. The Dow Jones average of 30 stocks fell a slight 1.53 points at 17,796.96, the broader S&P 500 index was down 1.17 points at 2,088.94 and the Nasdaq was down 3.94 point at 5,123.58.
The Canadian dollar was up 0.09 of a U.S. cent, rising to 74.87 cents US.
On the commodity markets, the December gold contract rose $6.40 to US$1,062.60 an ounce, the January crude contract was up 75 cents at US$42.46 a barrel and the January contract for natural gas was up three cents at US$2.24.
