Sukhbir Badal to flag off inaugural train from Amritsar to Sri Hazoor Sahib on New Year

Chandigarh, November 26: Tirath Yatra Scheme (religious pilgrimage) of the Punjab Government is all set to be launched with the fanfare on new year 1 January, 2016. The honour of the first city from where the inaugural train would be flagged off has been accorded to the holy city Amritsar. Punjab Deputy Chief Minister S. Sukhbir Singh Badal would flag off the train carrying devotees from Amritsar to Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib.

While presiding over a high level meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister said that besides this pilgrimage yatra, another train would be flagged off from Talwandi Sabo on 4th January while on 8th January, another train would carry the devotees from Sri Anandpur Sahib.

Divulging more, S. Badal said the Punjab Government would bear the entire costs of boarding and lodging of all pilgrims. He further informed that this scheme would cost Rs. 150 crore to the state exchequer. Adding more, he said that after studying the results of trial run, more trains would be launched to carry the pilgrims to Varanasi after 15th January.

Deputy Chief Minister said that Malerkotla and Ludhiana have also been selected as stations from where special pilgrimage trains would carry the devotees to Ajmer Sharif.

On this occasion, Education Minister, Punjab, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, Cultural Affairs and Tourism Minister S. Sohan Singh Thandal, Transport Minister S. Ajit Singh Kohar, Principal Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. P.S. Aujla, Special Principal Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Rahul Tewari and Mr. Manvesh Singh Sidhu were also present.
