CHANDIGARH, November 15: Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh today rejected the Akali Dal charges of Congress support to the Sarbat Khalsa, saying the party was trying to deflect the public attention as the core issues of desecration and killing of peaceful protestors remain unaddressed.
He also reiterated his charges against the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal over his continued silence, saying, “he has proved himself to be a coward who runs away like a fugitive instead of facing the situation that is of his own making”.
“You will do better if you start looking within and recognising and realising as why so many people attended the Sarbat Khalsa, instead of trying to find its origins in 10, Janpath or Moti Bagh Palace”, he told the Akalis, while reacting to their charges that Congress supported it.
“And let me tell you the truth…it was hatched in every house across Punjab that has been hit and hurt by your misgovernance, corruption, failure of the agriculture, closure of the industry, drug smuggling, loot of the state, subversion of the SGPC and Akal Takhat authority, the desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib, the killing of the peaceful protestors and the framing of innocent youth in false cases”, he said, while taking a jibe at the Akalis for accusing Congress of hatching the conspiracy.
Capt Amarinder said, the Sarbat Khalsa may have been hijacked by a handful of radicals, but the huge participation of people was an expression of deep anger against the Badals, who have looted and robbed not only the state, but even grabbed the sacred Sikh institutions, misusing these for personal benefits.
Referring to the purported voice records of some Congress leaders, he said, the matter of the fact is that this government has failed to identify the culprits behind the sacrilege and punishment to the guilty officers responsible for killing two peaceful protestors and now it has fabricated and electronically doctored the voice records in a crude attempt to put the entire blame on the Congress.
Capt Amarinder reiterated his charges against the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal saying he was hiding like a coward and had virtually abandoned his authority and responsibility as the head of the government. “He (Badal) is either a coward or has lost his power to think, speak and act as otherwise it is difficult to explain his hibernation for that long”, he remarked.
He said, while the Chief Minister had himself gone “underground into hiding” he had left his ministers and other leaders at the mercy of crowds. He pointed out, how one of his ministers was not allowed to lay the foundation stone in his own assembly segment, Maur in Bathinda district.
