CHANDIGARH, November 13: Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh today rejected the Shiromani Akali Dal allegations against his party that it was politicising the current situation. “Ours is a responsible political party which reaches out to people with healing touch and not with bullets to kill them in wanton rage”, he said in reaction to the SAD charges.
He also questioned Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s prolonged silence when state was passing through such a critical phase. “I am surprised as why Badal has chosen to keep quiet when the state is confronted with such a serious situation”, he said, while adding, “Badal was yet again running away from his responsibility”.
Capt Amarinder also ridiculed the SAD charges that he was “vilifying” Badal. “Do you really think that I need to vilify the who is uniformly hated by every Punjabi across the globe”, he asked, while adding, “even if I wish to, I really don’t need to”.
“If everything has been done by the Congress, as you want everybody to believe, then what for have you been there for about nine years now?” he asked the SAD leadership, while reacting to the charges levelled by its core committee on Wednesday and president, Sukhbir Badal today.
Advising introspection to the SAD leadership, the former Chief Minister asked them to use their current phase of “isolation and hibernation” to think and ponder as why they have reached this situation where they have to run for the cover to save their lives.
“Since destiny has forced you to hide behind secret hideouts away from the prying eyes of the public, you must use this occasion to meditate and contemplate as what went wrong with you, instead of blaming the Congress”, he advised Akalis, while asking them to try to get rid of the Congress-phobia.
Rejecting the SAD charges that the Congress was trying to politicise situation, Capt Amarinder said, the party was only performing its duty as a responsible and representative opposition.
“If we (the Congress) had not reached out to people after the vacuum you had left by running away, the alternative would have been chaos and anarchy”, the Congress leader asserted, while remarking, “responsible political parties like ours do not run away like you did and leave people to their own destiny”.
