Chandigarh, November 7: The Punjab Congress President Mr. Partap Singh Bajwa today asserted that the party Vice-President Sh. Rahul Gandhi had set a new benchmark for directly engaging with the people in the state in order to understand their concerns and grievances. The public is tremendously disillusioned and disenchanted with the Akali Dal-BJP Government for their social, economic and political mismanagement and endemic corruption which is prevalent in the State. All these factors have cumulatively led to total anarchy in Punjab.
“I challenge the Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal and the Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal to leave the confines of their homes to interact with the people in the villages who have been agitating for more than a month. Mr. Gandhi came to Punjab by train and was in the midst of the public, walked through the village by lanes to understand the hardships and devise solutions for the common man. Let the father and the son go to Gurdwara Sahib in Village Bargari to pay obeisance and partake langar without their heavy security and VVIP paraphernalia and only then will they come to know the true measure of their so called popularity”, he added. He further lashed out at Mr. Badal and stated that he and his family have become synonymous with corruption, degeneration, non-governance and lawlessness, and are responsible for every wrong that is taking place in Punjab.
The Congress party vehemently demands a judicial inquiry by a sitting Judge of the Hon’ble Supreme Court to inquire into the illegal police firing at Village Behbal Kalan that led to the murder of two peaceful protesters in a time bound manner. It is imperative to ascertain as to who ordered the police firing at peaceful protesters as it commonly known that such orders come from the highest echelons of the Government. The real perpetrators of this ghastly incident are being shielded by the Punjab Government. Our Vice President Sh. Rahul Gandhi has vowed to take this issue to its logical conclusion and the Congress party will very soon lead a high level delegation to the Honorable President of India and will re-agitate our demand for a Judicial Inquiry into the police firing by a sitting Judge of the Supreme Court.
