Chandigarh, November 2: People’s Party of Punjab chief Manpreet Singh Badal said the partial probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation recommended by the Parkash Singh government into the cases of sacrilege cases not only reflected confusion at every level in the state government but also continuing flip-flop as Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had earlier announced that the case has been unearthed and even foreign links of the accused had been traced. Moreover, a judicial probe too had been ordered by a retired judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

“The credibility of the Badal government has already reached its nadir. One fails to understand as to why after making all the tall claims about cracking the case, the investigation has been referred to the CBI. Moreover, only part of the cases have been handed over for probe excluding police firing on peaceful demonstrators at Behbal Kalan and the earlier unprovoked lathicharge on people staging dharna at Kotkapura early in the morning. Was this lathicharge ordered to clear the highway for the Badal buses?”, he asked.

Manpreet questioned Sukhbir on the veracity of the claims of cracking the case that he made in an emotional voice at the news conference in Chandigarh along with the foreign links saying the credibility of this government had now been reduced to zero.

He said besides taking the investigation into the conspiracy to destabilize the state to the logical conclusion, cases must be registered against the police officials involved in the firing on protesters killing two persons and release of two brothers Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh.

He said as all claims made by Sukhbir earlier about cracking the case stood trashed following the decision to hand over the case to CBI, the two brothers must be released immediately as it was on the basis of their arrest that he had made this claim.

He reminded Chief Minister Badal that earlier, the state government had ordered judicial probe by a retired judge and now the same had been handed over to the CBI. He wanted to know whether the two probes would function in the same cases simultaneously and if not, when was the order issued to wind up the judicial investigation that had remained a non-starter.
