Nithari serial killings : After 8-yr custody, Pandher out on bail

Ghaziabad, Moninder Singh Pandher, an accused in the Nithari serial murder case, was released from Dasna jail on Saturday, after the Allahabad High Court granted him bail on September 24.
Ghaziabad police said Pandher was released around 8 pm. “The order for his release came in around 5 pm. Once all formalities were completed, he was released,” S P Yadav, jail superintendent, Dasna jail, said.
Police said he had been in judicial custody for the past eight years, since his arrest in December 2006. The Allahabad High Court on September 24 had ordered his immediate release.

Pandher’s co-accused Surinder Koli was sentenced to death but his execution was stayed by the Supreme Court until October 28. Koli was taken to Meerut Jail, where his execution was scheduled. But after the stay, Koli has returned to Dasna jail. The two were arrested in December 2006 after human remains were discovered from a drain, behind Pandher’s residence in Nithari. Police later discovered that the remains belonged to 17 people, mostly minors. There were also accusations of sexual abuse.
