Punjab Congress demands resignation of Sukhbir over Jamalpur killings

Chandigarh, The Punjab Pradesh Congress has demanded immediate resignation of the Deputy Chief Minister and the Home Minister, Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, in the case of what the party described as the cold-blooded murder of the two dalit brothers by the police at Jamalpur village near Machhiwara in Ludhiana district.

The resolution to this effect was adopted at a meeting of the party’s district incharges, district presidents, office bearers, Incharges of frontal organisations and others under the state party chief Mr Partap Singh Bajwa. The AICC Secretary Mr Harish Chaudhary and S Kuljit Singh Nagra were present.

Referring to the involvement of an Akali leader from the area, the party demanded a time bound high level probe by a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court saying only such an inquiry could go to the depth of the case as what was all the more alarming aspect was the politician-police nexus.

The party expressed serious concern over the fast deteriorating law and order situation in the state saying it was the law of the jungle as this was not the case in isolation. What was all the more serious in this latest tragic incident was that the police opened fire to kill in a cold blooded manner and the victims happened to be two young men who were the real brothers.
