TORONTO – Locked out OLG workers at Sudbury Downs, Casino Brantford and Toronto’s Woodbine Racetrack have voted in favour of a new collective agreement to bring an end to a three-week lockout.
The lockout began Sept. 19 and the tentative agreement covering about one-thousand workers was reached on Oct. 11.
Unifor, which represents the workers, has said that as part of the OLG’s privatization plan, workers would no longer be eligible for their current pension plan and that talks broke down over the terms of a new plan.
The union says the new agreement ensures that after privatization, the new operator will have to immediately implement a registered pension plan and that the terms may be the subject of negotiations within six months.
Unifor says the agreement also includes wage improvements, a signing bonus and a number of contract language improvements.
