New Delhi, A criminal defamation complaint filed against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler by senior lawyer H.S. Phoolka representing the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots was Saturday posted for Oct 15 as the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Rao was on leave.
Phoolka had filed the complaint against Tytler in 2006, alleging that the Congress leader had passed derogatory remarks about him in a news programme aired Sep 7, 2004.
During the last hearing the lawyer of Tytler had told the court that the leader offered to tender an unconditional apology as no public interest was involved in the complaint filed by an individual.
However, senior advocate Phoolka, had refused to accept Tytler’s offer and said: “The matter is of great importance and any settlement will send a wrong message among the people. I cannot settle the matter and any compromise is not possible.”
