Gurdaspur, September 27: Lambasting the culture of laying foundation stones resorted to by the political parties like the Akali Dal, BJP and the Congress when in power, Aam Aadmi Party MP Bhagwant Mann promised a departure saying his party government would not lay the foundation stones but organize inaugurations of the projects rather than befooling the people.
He said such was the ridiculous situation that foundation stones were laid by the party in power and then forgotten, especially near the elections. This amounted to misleading the people for the sake of votes. He said entire culture of governance would be changed to make it pro-people.
He said the people were being crushed between the Akali Dal and the Congress in Punjab and now AAP was there to provide the much needed third dimension that would be pro-people to serve them and not to rule over them.
He took a dig and both Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Deputy Chief Minister son Sukhbir Singh Badal for selling the dream to the people of turning Punjab into California saying let it remain Punjab. Badal Senior had made this promise before the 1997 elections while Sukhbir was trying to sell the same dream while the roads in the state were potholed and farmers were committing suicides.
He said the poor were still to taste freedom as there had been no change in their quality of life.
Party convenor Sucha Singh Chhotepur asserted that the AAP government would rid the state of drug menace within two months or resign.
