GoI AGREES TO PROCURE 1509 VARIETY OF PADDY AT PREVAILING MSP
Chandigarh, September 24- With the persistent and strenuous efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal, the Government of India (GoI) today approved to procure 1509 variety of Paddy ‘Grade A’ at the prevailing Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that Mr. Badal had deputed Food and Supply Minister Punjab Mr. Adesh Partap Singh Kairon to pursue this matter with the Ministry of Food, GoI. The GoI today gave its nod to procure 1509 variety of Paddy ‘Grade A’ at the MSP which would help the state government to lift it in a smooth and hassle free manner, thereby immensely benefitting the farmers. Reiterating the firm commitment of the state government to lift every single grain of the farmers in the market, the Chief Minister said that it would be ensured at the best prevalent rates. He categorically said that none of any farmer would be allowed to be exploited in the market. Mr. Badal further said that he was personally monitoring the entire procurement operations in the state and was being regularly updated by the Minister concerned and the senior functionaries of the state government.
It may be recalled that due to adverse sentiment in the market the farmers were forced to sell their harvest below the much expected rate as compared to last year’s rates of procurement.
