Chandigarh: Bihar which was once known as a rouge state with brazen criminal activities such as gang rapes, abductions, kidnappings and murder, seems to have been replaced by Punjab in terms of lawlessness, anarchy and Jungle-Raj.
As we are aware, Punjab has been rocked by two gory incidents of abduction, gang rape and murder of young girlsduring the last couple of days. While a young girl from Jharkhnad state was found gang raped after being abducted in V. Gumanpura, PS Ghiranda in Amritsar yesterday, a similar incident occurred in Shimlapuri of Ludhiana two days back, where a schoolgirl was abducted, gang raped and murdered by a group of gangsters. Another gruesome gang rape and burning of a young girl had also been reported from Dhandari Kalan in Ludhiana a few months back.
It is very shameful that the power drunken Badals have now started a new “Talibani” trend of silencing the voice of the poor, by paying money to the aggrieved families even in the most heinous crimes of rape and murder. They recently paid Rs. 29 lac to the family of a “Dalit” girl murdered in the infamous Moga Orbit Bus scandal and likewise paid Rs. 25 lac to the family of a youth, crushed by their Dabwali bus at Ropar. This dangerous trend only shows, that the rich and powerful can get away from the hands of law even after committing most dreadful crimes.
These repeated horrific incidents of gang rape and murder clearly go on to show, that the people of Punjab have no fear and respect of law and the constitutional machinery. The main reason for such blatant, brazen and naked violations of law are taking place because the Badals have virtually politicized the police force from top to bottom and are using it as a private army, to settle scores with their opponents rather than focusing on maintenance of law and order in Punjab.
Punjab Police otherwise is considered to be a brave force that tackled militancy by sacrificing their lives, has been turned into a private militia by the Badal clan and their hands are tied by their political masters i.e. Jathedar’s etc. It is because of this gross politicization that it has failed to curb the menace of drugs and other crimes in the state.
The wrongful and immoral appointment of a convicted criminallike Bibi Jagir Kaur as President of Istri Akali Dal, has further added to the woes of crime against women. Her appointment has sent a very negative signal to the women folk, that how could girls in Punjab be safe under the Badal rule if a murderer of her own daughter is being honored and glorified by the Badals?
In the same breath, I also question the stoic silence ofHarsimrat Badal over these brutal gang rapes and murders, what is the point of propagating “Nanhi-Chaan” if she cannot protect the honor and dignity of young girls in Punjab? Why she has not opposed the unethical appointment of Bibi Jagir Kaur a convict, if she is genuinely concerned about security and safety of womenfolk?
Therefore, keeping in view the daily incidents of gang rape and murder from every nook and corner of Punjab, Congress demands the immediate resignation of the junior Badal as Home Minister for the total collapse of law and order machinery, besides demanding immediate de-politicization of the Punjab Police.
