Chandigarh: A delegation of the BJP Kisan Morcha led by state Punjab party president Sh Kamal Sharma today met Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal seeking immediate financial assistance the cotton growers suffering heavy losses from the attack of while fly on the cotton crop.
In a statement issued form the party headquarters, the delegation member and state president Kisan Morcha of the party, Sh Jatinder Singh Athwal, apprised the chief minister that the cotton crop has been completely damaged due to the while fly attack and even the insecticides being used by farmers are failing to minimize the impact of the attack. The situation has reached such seriousness that many farmers have started destroying their cotton crop midway in order to get another crop from the same fields, said the BJP leader.
“Growing cotton is already very expensive task and to control that the attack of while fly the farmer have already spent huge amount too. If farmers would not be compensated at the moment, the distress over them could be unbearable,” said the BJP delegation.
The delegation also urged the Chief Minister to take steps to release the payment of the cane growers and release of compensation announced for farmers whose wheat crop was damaged due to heavy rains.
The Chief Minister has assured to taken immediate steps to bail out the farmers from this distress. Cabinet Minister Anil Joshi,Ploitical Advisor to CM Shri Tikshan Sood, CPS Somprakash, Gen. SEC. Rakesh Rathor, Kisan Morcha general secretary, Rajinder Singh Kalyan, leaders Gurmeet Singh, Kulwant Singh Khatra, Nobel Singh and Kuljeet Singh were also part of delegation.
