Toronto :Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is investing some time today to drum up votes in the Toronto area’s ethnic communities.
Trudeau is taking in a number of events including stopping in Mississauga to speak to Canada’s largest Islamic conference, the 39th Jalsa Salana Canada.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke to the group Friday, mentioning the issue of homegrown terrorism and praising Muslim leaders for their efforts to curb youth radicalization.
Trudeau moves to Toronto later in the day, taking in a local Philippines festival and later a Tamil street festival.
In recent elections the Conservatives have worked hard to challenge the Liberals’ traditionally strong support among ethnic voters and Trudeau can’t take those votes for granted.
Harper has no public campaign events planned this weekend and NDP Leader Tom Mulcair is off the campaign trail until Sunday.
Bloc Quebecois Leader Gilles Duceppe is spending the day campaigning in the Montreal area while Green Party leader Elizabeth May is campaigning on Vancouver Island.
