Chandigarh, The major strides of Punjab in the core field of energy conservation today got recognition as Union Power Ministry has awarded Certificate of Merit to Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) for the year 2012 as well as 2013.
Felicitating the PEDA management for this prestigious award, Punjab Non Conventional Energy Minister, Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia said that these awards were in fact recognition of pioneering work being done by Punjab in the field of energy conservation & energy efficiency. He appreciated the efforts of Chief Executive, Officers and Staff Members of PEDA for implementation of energy conservation measures and energy efficiency program in the State in an efficacious manner..
He informed that demonstration project for energy efficiency improvement in Municipal street lighting, Government buildings, water pumping and industries have been taken up and were being implemented through the concerned department / industry. PEDA has also developed Punjab Energy Conservation Building Code (Punjab ECBC) and its implementation would reduce energy consumption in new buildings up to 40%. He said that a special awareness campaign regarding energy conservation and energy efficiency amongst student has already been started and to involve them in an effective manner painting competition and debates were being conducted in the schools and colleges throughout the state..
Mr. Majithia further informed that Punjab Government has planned to replace the conventional street lights with energy efficient LED lights. Pilot projects of S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) and Ludhiana are being taken up through Energy Efficiency Services Limited, a government of India Company for promoting energy efficiency, he added.
It may be mentioned here that in an impressive function held at New Delhi Dr. Amarpal Singh, Chief Executive, PEDA received these awards (Certificate of Merit) from Mrs. Neerja Mathur, Chairperson, Central Electricity Authority on behalf of the State government.
