Local bodies deptt to take up Pm’s clean india drive in a big way : Joshi

Chandigarh, Punjab Local Bodies Minister Anil Joshi toady resolved that to fulfil the dream project of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for including sanitation on top of the government agenda and his pledge to celebrate 150th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, by making the cities of india clean before Oct. 2, 2019 through public participation, the department of Local Government would launch an intensive campaign for “Swachchha Bharat Saptah” between September 25 and October 2.

Disclosing this here today Joshi said that instructions have been issued to all the Urban Local Bodies to start this drive on Sept 25 by publicising it in a big way and making an awareness drive amongst all sections of the society. All Mayors, Commissioners and Executive Officers of various corporations/municipal councils/nagar panchayats have been asked to ensure cleanliness in their respective areas and take up this important aspect on personal level with the help of awareness programmes. Besides, they have been directed to initiate media campaigns for educating the people about the importance of sanitation and indirect cost to the public from neglecting sanitation in the form of ill health, loss of work and cost towards medical treatment.

Joshi further said that he along with Som Parkash CPS will monitor this drive personally. He appealed to the people of the state to cooperate for the success of this event in a big way, as without public support and cooperation, nothing can be achieved.
