California: On the lines of Twitter, Facebook is working on a new standalone news app. This new app will send breaking news alerts straight to your phone.
However, the app is now in alpha testing stage and details about it are still vague. Facebook hasn’t confirmed anything yet and no word has been released as to when it will be released to the public.
Here’s how it is supposed to work:
Users will have to download a new mobile app by Facebook
Users will then have to choose partner publications that they would want to follow and also topics on which breaking news alerts they want to receive.
In case of breaking news, these publications can create mobile notifications that will go to all its followers. The alert will allow ‘100 characters’ of text and a URL to the article.
When people click on the link, they’ll be taken to the publication’s website to read the article.
