TORONTO:The father of a 26-year-old woman who was fatally shot outside Muzik nightclub says he is searching for answers following his daughter’s tragic and untimely death.
The funeral for Ariela Navarro-Fenoy was held at St. Judes Roman Catholic Church on Weston Road Monday morning and following the service, the young woman’s sister and father briefly spoke to members of the media.
The aspiring Toronto makeup artist was remembered as a “beautiful girl, inside and out.””(She) would do anything for her family and friends. She was a free spirit and lived life to the fullest. She was herself at all times and was able to connect with anyone she met,” Navarro-Fenoy’s sister Aluen Navarro said in an emotional statement.
“My sister was tragically taken away from us too soon and today we put her to rest. We’re sure our angel is looking after us.”
Navarro-Fenoy was fatally shot just north of the Dufferin Gate in the early morning hours of Aug. 4, minutes after another man, 23-year-old Duvel Hibbert, was gunned down on the patio of Muzik nightclub as the OVO Fest afterparty was wrapping up.
Police previously said Navarro-Fenoy was believed to be an innocent bystander in the shooting.
“I have so many questions,” her father Victor Navarro told reporters tearfully.
“I need answers right now.”
Last week a friend told reporters that she and Navarro-Fenoy had left Muzik after gunfire erupted and were denied a ride by several taxis who said their destination near Lake Shore Boulevard and Bathurst Street wouldn’t generate enough of a fare to make it worth their while.
A few minutes after approaching the cabs, the friend said she heard more gun shots and turned around to see Navarro-Fenoy on the ground bleeding.
There have been no arrests in connection with the case.
Navarro-Fenoy’s family thanked members of the community for their support.
“On behalf of my whole family, thank you for the endless love and support you’ve provided us,” Aluen Navarro said.
“She was really special and we are going to miss her so much.”
